Dear BHS Community,
I am writing to you today to inform you that we had an unauthorized visitor in the school who was a former Belmont High School student from the class of 2017.
When he entered the building, he was recognized immediately by students and engaged in a conversation. During their conversation, the former student stated he was visiting friends and teachers and also made a threatening remark followed by a statement that it was just a joke.
This remark was reported to a teacher. The teacher then had students report the incident to the school administration. Simultaneously, an administrator approached the individual and explained visitors are not allowed during the school day. The former student then willingly left the building with the administrator.
Out of an abundance of caution, the school resource officer and the Belmont Police Department were notified. To ensure everyone’s safety, the officers remained and circulated in the building to be a visual presence and to make sure the individual did not return. As a proactive measure, the administration drafted a no trespassing letter which was hand delivered this after by the Belmont Police.
We appreciate the proactive response from our students and staff members who reported the incident. We would also like to thank the Belmont Police Department for their quick and thorough response, as we continue to make the safety of our students and staff our top priority. We continue to remind our faculty, staff and students – if you see something, say something.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
