Dear Belmont High School Parents and Guardians,
Today at 9:00am a dog search was conducted at Belmont High School (BHS) while the school was in a modified shelter in place. This means that students and staff members were in classrooms with the door closed while the search took place. No students came in contact with the dogs. The main hallways, locker rooms, common areas, parking lots and several classrooms were searched. I am happy to report no illegal substances were discovered during this event or over the past years we have been conducting the searches.
The administration at BHS hopes to send a powerful message that we will not accept the presence of drugs at Belmont High School.
Using a canine search is part of a comprehensive plan that the school draws on to educate and discourage students from using illegal drugs. Our ultimate goal is to obtain a drug-free school environment and avoid tragic events.
We hope that this initiative encourages some students to resist or even to discontinue activity with illegal drugs. The event will provide you the opportunity to talk about good and bad choices and the serious consequences of using and bringing drugs to school. Please help emphasize this message by having a conversation with your child.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Principal Richards
