“Connecting with Belmont” Thanks Merchants

We gratefully acknowledge the many area merchants who contributed so generously to Belmont High School’s “Connecting with Belmont”, the eighteenth annual high school community service afternoon held on Saturday, October 22.

In this event, about 85 students came together on a very rainy afternoon to perform service at different sites.  Although the weather precluded all of the outside activities, it was sunny on the inside!  Two student groups were able to volunteer at the Belmont Library and Bristol Lodge (a soup kitchen in Waltham).

The others worked at BHS, where one group made 240 sandwiches for the shelters and soup kitchen run by the Middlesex Human Service Agency in Waltham.  Whole Foods Market, Stop and Shop (Pleasant Street)   Stop & Shop (Watertown Street),  Russo’s, Star Market, Costco,  and Mark & Toni’s, graciously provided us with the bread and fillings. The remaining students spent the afternoon creating cards for patients at Children’s Hospital and for our troops, with supplies donated by Hollingworth 5 & 10.

At the end of the afternoon, the spirited students gathered for ice cream and “fixin’s” from Rancatore Ice Cream, CVS (Trapelo Road), and Hollingworth.

We are so appreciative of the generous spirit with which our merchants once again joined our school/community partnership.
