North Quincy High School’s matchup against Belmont High School in the annual “High School Quiz Show” tournament will air this Saturday at 6 p.m. on WGBH Channel 2.
North Quincy, which won the tournament in 2013, was one of 16 schools that qualified for the seventh season of the competition, which was taped earlier this year and began airing on TV last month. Hingham High School and Thayer Academy in Braintree also qualified for the Sweet 16.
Thayer was defeated by the defending champion, the Advanced Math and Science Academy, in a matchup aired Feb. 6 on WGBH, the PBS TV station in Boston. Wellesley High School knocked out Hingham in the March 19 episode.
North Quincy and Belmont’s match will be the last aired in the Sweet 16 round. The winner of this weekend’s episode will square off against Lincoln-Sudbury High School in the next round.
The Elite 8 episodes will air in April, followed by the Final Four and Championship in May. The tournament, again hosted by Billy Costa, feature questions about current events, literature, history, science and math.
Participants were selected from a pool of 131 Massachusetts schools after a preliminary 100-question test called Super Sunday.
