Snowflakes, Part 2. Gifts and Baskets (and purchasing snowflakes for your students!)
The student shoppers did excellent jobs in filling the wish lists of our two families (9 people) struggling with life-threatening illness and in creating beautiful baskets to contain the gifts. Two of the boys wanted bikes, and with the help of Walmart in Saugus, we were able to purchase them pre-assembled and at a big discount. A staff member at Harvard Vanguard in Watertown offered to provide the helmets. Last Friday, Mr. Sullivan fit all the baskets and the bikes in his pick-up, and we traveled to “Basket Central” at Community Servings, where their staff “oohed and aahed” as we walked in.
The basket making is the moving part of this labor-intensive project. Knowing that we are making a holiday better for poor families in very difficult situations is so rewarding to all involved.
Now for the snowflakes! The 2500 snowflakes we are hoping to sell have all been strung, and next week they will be assembled with their cards to be ready for delivery before the holidays.
Don’t forget to purchase snowflakes for your students (and their friends and teachers) by Friday, Dec. 11. Snowflakes are $1 each, or $1.50 with a candy cane, and can be ordered by sending a list and either cash or a check (made out to the Belmontian Club). Your list should include the full names of the recipients, a brief message for each, and whether each is a snowflake by itself or with a candy cane. You may send this via mail to: Ms. Alice Melnikoff, Belmont High School, 221 Concord Ave., Belmont, MA 02478, or drop it off in the Main Office at BHS.
Thank you for your support, and wishing you wonderful holidays.
