For their season opening regatta,Arlington-Belmont Crew looked strong at Oct. 4th, Textile River Regatta in Lowell. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and high winds forced officials to cancel many of the afternoon races. Before the day came to an early end, however, AB Crew continued their momentum this Fall season with top performances in many of their races.
That the New Hampshire Championships on Oct. 11th AB Crew won four gold, three silver and two bronze medals. Their combined results earned the team the New Hampshire Cup, which is awarded to the team with the best overall results. They competed against 40 teams from around New England and New York.
Arlington-Belmont Crew raced three boats at the Head of the Charles Regatta on October. The Boys Varsity Eight came17th place out of 85 boats, the Boys Varsity Four got 39th place out of 85 boats and the Girls Varsity Eight got 41st place out of 85 boats. Head of the Charles is the premier rowing event of the Fall season. AB Crew competed against youth teams from the United States, Canada, Europe and Africa. Having finished in the top half in all three races, AB Crew automatically qualifies the two eights and a boys’ four for next year’s Head of the Charles. Arlington-Belmont is one of only a handful of youth teams from around the world to qualify three boats for next year’s Head and the only public school.
The Arlington-Belmont crew team held on to defend its title as State Champions at this year’s Massachusetts Public Schools Rowing Association’s Fall State Championships.This is AB crew’s third consecutive season winning the overall team points trophy at states. The AB Crew boys captured the boys team championship title for the fifth consecutive season, and the girls earned the second highest points total among high school girls teams.
