Dear Belmont High School Parents, Students Faculty, and Staff –
I am writing to inform you that the PSAT/NMSQT testing will be offered at Belmont High School on a Wednesday, October 14th. For the first time, College Board is requiring the PSAT exam to be administered during the school day. In the past, the exam has traditionally been offered on Saturday afternoons. Part of the rationale from CollegeBoard for this change is:
- It gives the schools more of an opportunity to launch the redesigned PSAT/NMSQT.
- Allows students a chance to practice and get familiar with the test format before taking the new SAT in March of 2016.
- Allows students to test without worrying about transportation or miss work, sports, or other extracurricular activities that can often conflict with Saturday test dates.
- School day PSAT/NMSQT testing complements school calendars and avoids conflicts with religious holidays.
CollegeBoard realizes that school-day testing represents a change for many high schools and may have an impact on instructional time and create scheduling challenges. CollegeBoard will offer Saturday testing days again in the 2016-17 school year.
To endure students and parents are well-informed of the new test changes, the BHS Guidance Department will be hosting information sessions throughout the 2015/2016 school year. The sessions are currently being organized and will be announced through the Belmont High School listserve and Principal’s Blog. Please log on to collegeboard.org for more specific information.
