I hope the summer has been restful and satisfying.
As we approach the 2013-2014 school year, I would like to remind everyone of the upcoming Jewish holidays.
In 2013, the Rosh Hashanah holiday observance begins at sundown on the evening of Wednesday, 9/4, continues through the day on Thursday, 9/5, and ends at sundown on Friday, 9/6. It is important to note that observances during the day typically include synagogue services followed by family gatherings. Virtually all Jewish students and staff members will begin observing on Wednesday evening and will be absent on Thursday, the first day of Rosh Hashanah. Some will be absent in observance of the second day as well.
Therefore, scheduling of school tests and quizzes should be avoided for Thursday and Friday and no homework should be due on those days. Students should be given ample opportunity to make up work they have missed during their absence(s) for religious observances.
I would like to thank everyone in advance for being sensitive and accommodating of Jewish families during these holy days.
Thank you for your understanding.
Mr. Richards, Principal
