Dear BHS Parents, Students, Faculty, and Staff:
In the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy and the events that unfolded this week, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. In some way or another, we all have been impacted by the recent events. It is my hope that everyone is safe and sound.
Tomorrow our students, faculty, and staff report back to school from our April break. It is difficult to measure how each individual has been impacted by these tragic events. Without a doubt the emotions that follow will be indelible.
To help unscramble some of the confusion and questions students may have, guidance counselors and school psychologist will be available. Many students may not need these services but will be comforted just knowing they are there. As for the faculty and staff, I ask that you support each and remember that we are a family at Belmont High School. Carol, Jim, and I will be available throughout the day. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
I encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children to see if they have any questions. To assist in these conversations, I have attached and article from the National Association of School Psychologist entitled “Talking to Children about Violence: Information for Parents and Guardians“. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you need assistance, 617-993-5901.
Mr. Daniel E. Richards
Belmont High School, Principal
